Here at BeautyLook Magazine we love fashion.  We love creating it, talking about it, wearing it, taking photos of it, swooning over it.  Just about anything fashion-industry related and we are posting it on our social media pages, website and digital magazine.  And so when this issue was being conceived I just couldn’t wait to bring you 2014’s Color of the Year, how it was crowned, and how you will look ah-ma-zing wearing this year’s Spring and Summer colors…

Spring fashion is always positioned to be so fun, flirty and casual… not to mention a much welcomed relief.  The harsh (and I am sure jealous) winters, this year in particular, have you counting the days until the freeze warnings stop and the warmer breezes of Spring start, just so you don’t loose your mind. (The first day of Spring is March 20, by the way).

Fashionably speaking, Spring and Summer Collections on the catwalk are shown at the Ready To Wear (RTW) shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City every September.  The fashion labels that you love are shown to front row seated buyers, journalists, celebrity stylists dressing award show red carpet attendees, and anyone else who wants to wear their gorgeous clothes.  So, have you ever wondered how the designers and fashion houses all seem to have the same shades of color in their collections?  How do they all do that?  Do they have an undercover meeting that somehow skipped the Twitter and Facebook universe?  Are they in on a super secret only Insiders know?

The answer is, yes.  And, since you are a savvy, smart insider reading BeautyLook, we just happen to be in on that secret and now, so are you.  In the months of March, April and May, we think butterflies, green grass, fresh air, blue skies and… orchids.

Orchids?  That little secret mentioned earlier is decided and shared with other insiders several months before by the Pantone Color Institute® in New York City.  Each December, Pantone’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, announces their coveted Color of the Year.

BeautyLook Magazine was one of the first to post 2013’s Color of the Year, Emerald Green, on our social media pages and we saw that lush color trend everywhere from clothes to accessories, and even home design in textured couches and stunning tableware.  This year, 2014, a new color was crowned and this Spring and Summer season will be all about Radiant Orchid:

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health.  It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

-Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute®

The  2014 Spring and Summer Color Report for fashion is revealed as a collection of colors in a palette. There is a report for women and men, then the one “IT” color from that palette is chosen.  As the Spring fashion advertisements get ready to bloom at your favorite store fronts and in glossy magazines, you will see this pink-purple, Radiant Orchid, color everywhere.

Pink is psychologically a ‘sweet’ color.  You will see it in ice cream shops and cupcake stores.  It makes your mouth water and you start feeling that you just have to have what they are selling you.  2014’s Color of the Year is no different.

Purple is all about wealth, royalty and extravagance, from cosmetics to innovative designers connecting it with sophistication and power.

Purple is red + blue and Radiant Orchid is a fascinating color that works well with other colors in the Spring Fashion Report (gold, turquoise and deep red). Combined with orange it creates a unique contemporary look, plus, Radiant Orchid’s rosy tones can flatter a number of different skin tones.  And who isn’t about looking and being Radiant this New Year?

Word on the fashion street last Fall rumored Dazzling Blue was going to be this years “IT” color for men.  But The Fashion Color Report Spring 2014 for men has very similar color choices as the women’s, and those complimentary colors mentioned before are included to make your styling choices easier, as all the colors work very well together.

So,  go ahead and try on Radiant Orchid this upcoming Spring season.  If not a piece of clothing, try a splash of purple as an mobile phone case, a chunky bangle, or footwear and feel radiant.  It’s what our fresh, New Year needs a little more of anyway.
